Pinterest Winter Challenge: Vintage-Look Wooden Sign

I have a Pinterest board with multiple D.I.Y. signs for the kitchen pinned so I thought that the Pinterest Challenge: Winter Edition would be the perfect opportunity for me to finally make a vintage-look wooden Grocery sign.

My “Pinspiration” for this project would have to be this sign shared by the blogger Compulsive in Texas.

You can find my pin for this fabulous sign here.Compulsive in Texas Grocery Sign

I have a secret to share. I am a procrastinator.

I like love the idea of making something, and am all too happy to go shopping for the supplies, but it is very rarely a quick process from start to finish.

My sign is an excellent reminder of why I should not be a procrastinating crafter. It adds charm and character to a spot in our kitchen that has always been the thorn in our side.

I love it!

Here is my take on

How to make a vintage-look wooden sign

Grocery Sign Scrap Wood

Paint your base colour.

(I used three different shades of green when I painted this but I really don’t think it made a big difference in the end)

Create the lettering for your sign. I used my Silhouette Cameo and contact paper.

Stand back and think to yourself

Get out your sander or sandpaper (after it is dry).

Distress the heck out of that sign!

Then,

say

hello

to

Fabulous

Ohhhh

Lastly, a Before and After distressing for good measure.

Some things definitely get better with age!

Just like that, my vintage-look sign is ready to steal the show in my open kitchen shelving overhaul.

  1. Oh, Claire, I love it! Is it really that easy? I've been wanting to make something like this, but I don't have one of those fancy pants machines.
